Pune, 3 September 2025: The long-pending Purandar International Airport project near Pune has taken a step forward, with nearly half of the affected farmers agreeing to part with their land in the first week of the acquisition process.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi said landowners covering about 1,450 acres out of the revised 3,000-acre requirement have already given their consent. More than 1,000 farmers from seven identified villages submitted approval letters at the Pune collector’s office and the Saswad sub-divisional office.

This is a positive shift, as the project had earlier faced stiff resistance, particularly from Pargaon village. Officials say the process is moving more smoothly this time.

To make the deal more attractive, the government has offered a compensation package that includes cash payments and the return of 10% of the acquired land as developed plots within the planned Aerocity next to the airport.

The consent drive will remain open until September 18, giving other farmers the opportunity to join in. If the current pace continues, authorities believe the airport project could finally see real progress after years of delay.
