Pune News, July 21, 2025: The ambitious Pune Outer Ring Road project is set to get a crucial infrastructure boost with the construction of a major traffic interchange just south of the Khed-Shivapur toll plaza on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway (NH48). This strategic move aims to ease the notorious traffic congestion that plagues the toll plaza, particularly during weekends and festive periods.

The interchange is designed to streamline vehicular movement and provide smooth connectivity between the upcoming Pune Ring Road and NH48. By diverting and managing traffic more efficiently, this project will significantly reduce delays and enhance travel comfort for commuters.

Officials have emphasized the necessity of such an interchange to maintain the free-flowing nature of the planned Outer Ring Road. The Ring Road, envisioned as a high-speed bypass around Pune city, is expected to offer bottleneck-free travel, and this interchange plays a key role in that goal.

The construction contract for this segment has been awarded to GR Infraprojects, a reputed infrastructure development company. The work is already in progress, marking a step forward in the city’s ongoing efforts to improve regional connectivity and traffic management.

Once completed, the traffic interchange is expected to not only relieve congestion at the Khed-Shivapur toll but also support long-term traffic planning in Pune’s growing metropolitan area.
