Pune News, July 07, 2025: After a brief rise in COVID-19 cases in May, Pune has recorded a decline in infections in June, according to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). While May saw 93 cases—a notable jump after months of minimal activity—June reported only 68 cases, signaling an improvement.

From Near-Zero to a Minor Spike

From January to April 2025, Pune reported just one COVID-19 case, indicating almost no viral circulation. However, May’s increase, though minor, prompted health officials to reinforce surveillance.

Dr. Vaishali Jadhav, PMC’s assistant health officer, clarified, “The rise in May was not severe, and many cases initially reported under PMC limits were actually from private hospitals outside our jurisdiction. We continue to monitor the situation closely,” reported Hindustan Times.

Statewide Trends: Mumbai Leads, But Cases Decline Overall

Maharashtra reported eight new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, with Pune contributing two, Mumbai five, and Kolhapur one. Since January 2025, the state has recorded 2,472 cases and 41 deaths, maintaining a 95.92% recovery rate.

Mumbai remains the most affected, with 1,012 cases this year—551 in June alone. However, Dr. Sandeep Sangale, Joint Director of Health Services, noted a statewide decline in cases.

Ongoing Surveillance and Public Advisory

Health teams are actively monitoring influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), testing 5% of ILI patients and all SARI cases for COVID-19. Positive samples undergo Whole Genome Sequencing to track variants.

PMC officials urge citizens to:
✔ Stay alert but avoid panic
✔ Maintain hygiene and get tested if symptomatic
✔ High-risk individuals should exercise extra caution
✔ Continue vaccinations and follow responsible behavior

While the situation remains under control, authorities emphasize preventive measures to curb further spread.
