New Railway Fares Come into Effect from July 01; AC Fare Hike Steepest – Here’s What Changes
 
                New Delhi, 30th June 2025 (PIB Delhi): In a significant move aimed at optimizing fare structures and ensuring financial sustainability, the Ministry of Railways has announced a rationalization of basic fares for passenger train services, effective from 1st July 2025. The revised fares, based on the updated Passenger Fare Table issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA), introduce moderate increases across various travel classes while keeping short-distance fares unchanged.
Key Changes in Passenger Train Fares (Effective 1st July 2025)
1. No Fare Hike for Short-Distance Travel (Up to 500 Km in Ordinary Class)
- Ordinary Non-AC Class (Second Class):
- No increase for journeys up to 500 km.
- Rs. 5 increase for 501–1500 km.
- Rs. 10 increase for 1501–2500 km.
- Rs. 15 increase for 2501–3000 km.
 
- Sleeper Class & First Class:
- Increased by 0.5 paisa per km.
 
2. Revised Fares for Mail/Express Trains (Non-AC Classes)
- Second Class, Sleeper Class, First Class:
- Increased by 1 paisa per km.
 
3. AC Class Fare Revisions (Mail/Express Trains)
- AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier/3-Economy, AC 2-Tier, AC First/Executive Class/Executive Anubhuti:
- Increased by 2 paisa per km.
 
4. No Change in Suburban & Season Ticket Fares
- Suburban single-journey fares and season tickets (both suburban and non-suburban) remain unchanged.
5. No Increase in Ancillary Charges
- Reservation fees, superfast surcharges, GST, and fare rounding principles remain as per existing norms.
6. Applicability on Premium & Special Trains
The revised fare structure will apply to:
✔ Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express
✔ AC Vistadome, Anubhuti, and Ordinary non-suburban services
Implementation & Next Steps
- Revised fares apply to tickets booked on or after 1st July 2025.
- Tickets issued before this date remain valid without fare adjustments.
- PRS, UTS, and manual ticketing systems are being updated.
- Zonal Railways instructed to update fare displays at stations.
