Pune: Bull Goes Wild During Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s Palkhi Procession at Diveghat
As the annual Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage progressesd towards Pandharpur, lakhs of Warkaris (devotees) continue their spiritual journey, chanting the name of Lord Vitthal ahead of Ashadhi Ekadashi. On Sunday, June 22, the Palkhi (palanquin) procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj successfully crossed the challenging Dive Ghat—one of the toughest stretches on the route—amidst unexpected chaos when a bull ran wild, causing panic among devotees.
The incident occurred as the Palkhi was making its way through Dive Ghat, a steep and difficult terrain. A bull, startled by the massive crowd gathered at a resting spot, suddenly went berserk, sending Warkaris and onlookers scrambling for safety. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. A viral video of the incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media.
Earlier in the day, the Palkhi had departed from Pune and briefly halted at Vadkinala around 2 PM before resuming its journey towards Saswad. Despite the scare, the procession continued with unwavering devotion. The weather remained cloudy with a cool breeze, providing relief from the usual heat, though no rain disrupted the pilgrimage.

The Warkaris, undeterred by the long and arduous climb, filled the air with devotional songs—Padas, Abhangs, Bharuds, and Gaulanis—creating an atmosphere of spiritual fervor. The beautifully decorated bullocks pulling the chariot added to the grandeur of the procession. By evening, the Palkhi reached Saswad, where devotees welcomed it with immense enthusiasm.
