Monsoon Arrives in Pune, Mumbai and Many Parts of Maharashtra | IMD

Pune, May 26, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the arrival of Southwest Monsoon 2025 in Mumbai and Pune and many parts of Maharashtra today, May 26, 2025. This has been the fastest onset of monsoon in Pune and Mumbai, a full fortnight earlier than the usual date of around 8-10 June in these cities.
According to the IMD, the monsoon has now spread into:
- Some more parts of central Arabian Sea
- Additional areas in Maharashtra, including Mumbai and Pune
- Further regions in Karnataka, including Bengaluru
- Remaining parts of Tamil Nadu
- Parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
- Expanded regions of westcentral and north Bay of Bengal
- Entire Tripura, remaining parts of Mizoram, and parts of Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya
The current Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) stretches across a wide longitudinal and latitudinal range and includes major locations such as:
- Mumbai
- Pune
- Sholapur
- Kalaburagi
- Mahbubnagar
- Kavali
- Agartala
- Goalpara
The NLM coordinates now pass through 17.0°N/55°E, 17.5°N/60°E, 18°N/65°E, 18.5°N/70°E, extending up to 28.5°N/89°E.

Further Monsoon Progress Expected
The IMD has forecast that conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to further advance into:
- Remaining parts of central Arabian Sea
- More areas of Maharashtra
- Remaining regions of Karnataka
- Additional parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
- Remaining portions of westcentral and parts of north Bay of Bengal
- Remaining northeastern states
- Some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim
This continued progress over the next three days is expected to bring widespread rainfall, impacting agricultural planning and water availability across these regions.
