Amroha/New Delhi, May 5, 2025 — Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, currently representing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 season, has received a chilling death threat via email. The mail, sent on May 4 around 2–3 pm, demanded ₹1 crore from the cricketer and warned of dire consequences if the demand wasn’t met. The sender used the name ‘Rajput Sindhar’.

The shocking revelation came from Shami’s brother, Mohammed Haseeb, who immediately lodged a complaint with the Cyber Cell of the Amroha Police. An FIR has been registered, and an investigation is now underway on the orders of the Superintendent of Police (SP). Authorities are probing the origins of the threatening email and any possible links behind it.

No official statement has yet been issued by Shami or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, the gravity of the threat has led to swift action from local law enforcement, who are treating the matter with high priority.

Shami, who returned to the Indian team for the Champions Trophy after recovering from a long injury layoff post-World Cup 2023, had been India’s joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 9 wickets from 5 matches. Despite his comeback, his IPL 2025 season has been less than stellar, with just 6 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 56.17.

Speaking to media earlier this season, Shami reflected on his recovery and performance:

“Injuries are part and parcel of a fast bowler’s life. My recovery took 14 months, and it wasn’t easy—especially given the challenges I faced during my domestic career. Regaining rhythm and the right mindset was tough.”

He credited SRH for revitalizing his perspective on the game:

“SRH has completely changed my perspective—what used to be a 200-run target now feels like 300. We’ve built a strong bowling unit, and I’m focused on contributing my best.”

The seasoned bowler is also expected to feature in India’s red-ball squad during the England tour starting June 20, 2025.

This incident has raised serious concerns about player safety, especially during high-profile tournaments like the IPL. With cyber threats on the rise, the need for robust protection and monitoring of players’ digital and personal security has never been more urgent.

As the investigation progresses, the cricket community and fans await further updates and hope for a swift resolution to the disturbing development.
