Mumbai, June 2, 2025 – The Maharashtra School Education Department has released the official holiday schedule for the 2025–26 academic year, revealing that students and teachers in government schools will enjoy 129 off days. The academic session will consist of 236 working days, with schools reopening on June 16, 2025, for most regions, while Vidarbha schools will commence a week later on June 23, 2025.

The holiday calendar was finalized after consultations with teachers’ associations, ensuring a balanced academic year. This year’s schedule includes 53 Sundays, all designated as non-working days, contributing to the total of 129 holidays—one more than the previous year.

Earlier this year, there was speculation about shifting Maharashtra’s academic calendar to align with the CBSE’s April–March schedule, as recommended by the State Curriculum Framework for School Education (SCF-SE). However, strong opposition from teacher unions, who argued that the existing June–April calendar better suits Maharashtra’s cultural and climatic conditions, led the government to retain the traditional schedule.

Education Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh confirmed the June reopening, ending uncertainty among schools and parents. School Education Minister Pankaj Bhoir had initially proposed an April 1 start, but the government ultimately decided against it, prioritizing stability and local needs.

This decision ensures that students and teachers can plan their year effectively while enjoying a well-structured holiday schedule.
