In just over 10 years, India's metro network has expanded fourfold. From a modest 248 km in 2014, it has now crossed the 1,066 km mark in early 2026.

The U.S. currently operates 1,389.4 km of metro lines. With 936 km of new lines currently under construction across India, the gap is closing fast.

China remains the world leader (12,000+ km), followed by the USA. India has firmly secured the 3rd spot, leaving legacy systems like Japan and South Korea behind.

India’s modern metro corridors now serve nearly 11.5 million passengers every single day, drastically reducing urban congestion and carbon footprints.

While the U.S. relies on legacy systems in New York or Chicago, India’s growth is fueled by new, high-tech corridors in cities like Pune, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru.

This rapid expansion is powered by the "Make in India" initiative and a massive 5x increase in budget allocation compared to a decade ago.
